Centre clears Ayurvedic medical college hospital in Jharkhand, MBBS, PG medical seats expansion on agenda
Ranchi: The Union Health Ministry has given in-principle approval to several proposals aimed at strengthening Jharkhand's healthcare infrastructure, following a meeting between state Health Minister Irfan Ansari and Union MoS Health Prataprao Jadhav in New Delhi.
These include setting up an Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital, establishing Japanese technology-based hi-tech diagnostic laboratories in all medical colleges and Ranchi Sadar Hospital, and constructing Wellness Health Centres across all districts under a 60:40 Centre–State funding model.
The Centre also agreed to support Jharkhand’s Abua Health Scheme and discussed plans to increase MBBS and PG seats, with further action to follow after expert inspections.
According to a recent report by UNI, Jharkhand Health Minister Irfan Ansari held a meeting with union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Prataprao Jadhav in New Delhi to discuss strengthening the state's healthcare infrastructure.
Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Ajay Kumar was also present.

During the meeting, the Central Government granted in-principle approval for several key proposals, including the establishment of an Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital in Jharkhand, setting up Japanese technology-based hi-tech diagnostic laboratories in all medical colleges and Ranchi Sadar Hospital, and construction of Wellness Health Centres (Health Cottages) in all districts under a 60:40 Centre–State funding pattern, adds UNI
The proposal to increase MBBS and PG seats in major medical colleges was also discussed, with the Centre assuring further action after expert inspection. Support for Jharkhand’s Abua Health Scheme, which provides free treatment up to Rs 15 lakh, was also agreed upon, as per UNI

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren had earlier mentioned that the state government aims to increase the number of medical colleges in Jharkhand to 25 to 30 over the next five years.
He spoke on how the government is focused on building an ecosystem that ensures quality medical education alongside modern healthcare services. While acknowledging challenges, Soren reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure and lauded the establishment of a medical college in a smaller district like Seraikela-Kharswan.
