Tripura Cabinet approves establishment of Ayurveda, homeopathy colleges with 60 seats each

Tripura: To promote AYUSH education, the Tripura Cabinet has recently approved the establishment of an Ayurveda and a Homeopathy medical college and hospital in the state.
A press conference was held recently, attended by Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury. Speaking at the conference, the Minister announced that on Thursday, the Council of Ministers approved proposals to establish two new medical colleges, i.e. Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital, and a Homeopathy Medical College and Hospital.
Both of these colleges are scheduled to commence operations from the upcoming academic session (2026-27).
However, the Ayurvedic Medical College will initially operate from Chandrapur in the Gomati district until a full-fledged campus is ready at Tepania in the same district, reports PTI
Meanwhile, a homeopathic medical college will be established at the Netaji Subhash Homeopathic Hospital in the West Tripura district. Both of these medical colleges will have 60 seats each.
The northeastern state currently has three medical colleges, including Agartala Government Medical College, which offers PG courses in various disciplines.
Earlier this year, Medical Dialogues had reported that in a boost to healthcare infrastructure, North Kashmir will soon get its first Ayurvedic medical college. The government has decided to establish the institution in Sopore. This announcement was made recently during the ongoing budget session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.

Previously, Madhya Pradesh government announced plan to introduce a three-year Doctorate of Medicine, DM course, in the state's Ayurveda colleges.
There are a total of 39 Ayurveda colleges in Madhya Pradesh. Of these, seven are government-run and 32 are private institutions, located in Bhopal, Jabalpur, Indore, Burhanpur, Ratlam, Ujjain, Rewa, Gwalior, Mandsaur, Chhatarpur, Shivpuri, Balaghat, Dewas, and Sehore. To be eligible for admission to the DM course, candidates must hold a postgraduate degree (MD or MS) in Ayurveda. Additionally, admission to the DM course will be granted based on a competitive examination similar to the 'All India AYUSH Post Graduate Entrance Test' (AIAPGET).
