MP to launch DM courses in Ayurveda colleges
Bhopal: To promote superspecialisation, the Madhya Pradesh government is all set to introduce a three-year Doctorate of Medicine, DM course, in the state's Ayurveda colleges.
There are a total of 39 Ayurveda colleges in Madhya Pradesh. Of these, seven are government-run and 32 are private institutions, located in Bhopal, Jabalpur, Indore, Burhanpur, Ratlam, Ujjain, Rewa, Gwalior, Mandsaur, Chhatarpur, Shivpuri, Balaghat, Dewas, and Sehore.
According to the FreePressJournal media news report, in Ayurveda, three-year 'Super Speciality DM courses' have been introduced by the Ministry of AYUSH, similar to the NEET-SS in Allopathy. An MD degree in the relevant subject is mandatory for admission to these courses.
To be eligible for admission to the DM course, candidates must hold a postgraduate degree (MD or MS) in Ayurveda. Additionally, admission to the DM course will be granted based on a competitive examination similar to the 'All India AYUSH Post Graduate Entrance Test' (AIAPGET).
These courses will focus specifically on specialised clinical practice, research, and advanced theory. Specialised DM Ayurveda programs are being introduced to train Ayurvedic specialists. The DM courses will be introduced in Psychiatry, Hepatology, Oncology, Orthopedics, Reproductive Medicine, and Gerontology.
In this regard, the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) has also issued a circular.
The Ayurveda colleges must submit a formal application to their respective universities, providing relevant information to the NCISM.
Meanwhile, Rakesh Pandey—Executive President of the Private Ayurveda College Teachers' Welfare Association and National Spokesperson for the AYUSH Medical Association—stated that, as an initial step, Ayurveda colleges and universities must obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the State Government.
