Speaking on the occasion, Azim Premji stated that the university in Bhopal is already operational, with the first batch of over 200 students enrolled in undergraduate and postgraduate programs. He emphasized that this network of universities will play a pivotal role in nurturing young leaders dedicated to driving social change.

According to a report in The Hindu Business Line the university embarked on its journey into the realm of public health two years ago and has since made substantial strides. Presently, it oversees the operation of three health centers in low-income neighborhoods in Bengaluru, bringing vital healthcare services to over 50,000 urban underprivileged residents. The university has outlined plans for further expansion of these initiatives to new locations in the upcoming year.
Azim Premji further mentioned that their health initiatives began in the Dharamjaigarh block of Chhattisgarh, with plans to expand into other regions in the central part of the country. Additionally, a new "Master's in Public Health" program is set to commence at Bhopal, and there are considerations to establish a hospital and a medical college as integral components of the University in Ranchi.
At present, the university's central focus is on mitigating the substantial learning gaps that school children faced during the pandemic. Its ongoing partnerships with diverse state governments span a multitude of domains, including assessment, curriculum enhancement, early childhood education, textbook creation, teacher education, institution building, and various other initiatives.
Furthermore, in terms of grantmaking, the university currently provides support to more than 600 grassroots organizations. These organizations are actively engaged in a variety of sectors, including marginalized farmers, nutrition, gender concerns, mental health, and various other areas.
