Chhattisgarh plans to add 350 more MBBS Seats in GMCs
Raipur: Bringing good news to the medical aspirants in Chhattisgarh, the State Government has given its nod for the proposal of adding 350 MBBS seats in government medical colleges in the State.
The State has given its permission for increasing seats in Raipur, Bilaspur, Ambikapur, Jagdalpur, Rajnandgaon and Raigarh. However, the final approval needs to come from the National Medical Commission (NMC), adds Jagran.
In order to implement this plan, the State Health Minister TS Singhdev has directed the authorities for increasing the infrastructure in these medical colleges including the number of medical professors.
As per the data provided by MoS Health Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar before the Parliament, there are a total number of 12 medical colleges in Chhattisgrah with an intake capacity for 1565. Among these, there are a total number of 8 government medical colleges with an intake capacity for 965 MBBS seats. In the 4 private medical colleges, there are a total number of 600 MBBS seats.

As per the latest media report by Jagran, the State government is planning to increase 350 MBBS seats. While the Government's plan is to increase 100 seats in Raipur, it plans to add 50 seats each to the medical colleges in Bilaspur, Jagdalpur, Raigarh, Ambikapur, and Rajnandgaon.
While commenting on the matter, the Health Minister of the State, TS Singhdeo informed the daily about the ongoing preparations for increasing seats in government medical colleges. Although the State has given its nod, the final approval will be given by NMC, the Apex medical body, after it inspects the medical colleges.
He further mentioned that the State is trying to get NMC nod for NEET Counselling from this academic year. In order to ensure this, the human resources are also being increased, apart from strengthening of the infrastructure.
