Fact Check: NMC warns against fake allotment letters for MBBS admissions, says 'not involved in Medical College allotment Process'
New Delhi: Warning the medical aspirants and their parents against the scam of fake allotment letters, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has clarified that the Commission or its Boards do not issue any letter for admission in a medical college.
Issuing a public notice in this regard, NMC referred to a fake allotment letter, which was issued under the signature of the NMC Secretary. Referring to this, the Commission mentioned in the April 10, 2023, "It has come to the notice of NMC that a fake letter for allotment of seat for MBBS course was issued under the alleged signature of Secretary, National Medical Commission."
However, the Commission clarified, "It is brought to the notice of the public that none of the officers of NMC and its Boards issue any letter either for admission in the medical college or is involved in the medical college allotment process."
Advising students and their parents not to fall into such traps, the Commission further mentioned, "Accordingly, all the students/parents/guardians etc. are advised to not to fall into the traps of miscreants who are issuing such letters in the name of officers of this Commission. Such incidents are also intended to tarnish the image of the National Medical Commission which in fact is mandated to supervise highest ethical standards in medical profession."

This is not the first time that NMC has warned students against the circulation of such fake allotment letters. Last year, Medical Dialogues had reported that the Commission had raised alarms against fake allotment letters, allegedly signed under the name of the NMC Chairman, confirming the admission of students in MBBS courses.
Back then as well, NMC had clarified that the Commission is not associated with the college allotment process altogether.
