Failed NEET after 3rd attempt, TN Medical aspirant ends life
The candidate, who has been writing NEET exams since 2019, was not able to clear for the third time this year. Since he had secured low marks he could not get admission to pursue medicine.
Chennai: A young medical aspirant has committed suicide after he failed to clear the NEET exams at Puzhal near adjoining Tiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu late Thursday night.
The incident came to light on Friday morning when the candidate was found hanging at his house.
The candidate, who has been writing NEET exams since 2019, was not able to clear for the third time this year. Since he had secured low marks he could not get admission to pursue medicine. Dejected over this, he committed suicide by hanging, police informed UNI.
His body was shifted to the Government hospital for post mortem.
Condoling the death, PMK Founder Dr S Ramadoss said this was the seventh incident of suicide this year due to NEET and expressed regret over the Central and State governments not taking steps to prevent such suicides.
Stating that getting exemption from NEET was the only solution to prevent such suicides, Dr Ramadoss, in a series of tweets said, the Governor was yet to give his assent for the Bill adopted in the State Assembly on the NEET issue.
'This situation should not continue", he said, adding, since the next academic year was scheduled to commence in the next few months, steps should be taken to exempt Tamil Nadu from the purview of NEET.
NEET was introduced in India as a centralized test for admitting medical students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. However, since its inception, Tamil Nadu has been protesting against the same as after the test was introduced more than a dozen students of underprivileged social background had committed suicide. These students belonging to remote areas were unable to access the necessary resources for clearing the entrance examination.
"For this the Governor should soon give his nod to the Bill and the State government should act fast to get the Presidential assent", he added.
Dr Ramadoss also expressed anguish and grief over the suicide of the candidate and offered his condolences to the bereaved family members.
