New Delhi: Pointing out that the counselling for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test 2021 is yet to be completed, more than 10,000 aspirants of NEET UG 2022 have recently written to the National Testing Agency (NTA) requesting to postpone the exam and allocate them with enough time for preparation.

Apart from this the aspirants have also pointed out how the date for NEET on July 17 is almost clashing with the dates for CUET & JEE Mains.

They also pointed out that because of the changed many students got confused regarding their chances of securing a seat in NEET 2022 and therefore holding the exam on July 17 will turn out to be a burden on both the droppers and freshers.
"Pursuing MBBS is a dream of lakhs of students and the emotions of their parents and teachers are connected therewith. But due to this declaration of premature dates, they are starting to give up on their dreams. Please allocate them an adequate amount of time so that they can prepare well for the exam," the letter stated.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the aspirants of the MBBS entrance test had been crying for Justice on Twitter. While the fresh candidates pointed out that they would get only one month time to prepare for the exam with CBSE exam ending in June, the repeaters blamed the delayed NEET UG 2021 counselling as the reason for their lack of adequate preparation. The candidates took to Twitter demanding to postpone the exam by one month with hashtags such as #postponeneetug2022 and #JusticeforNeetStudents.

In fact, referring to the short time gap for preparation, the candidates had started signing an online petition demanding to defer the exam to August. The petition, a copy of which was circulating on the social media platforms, had pointed out the situation of the aspirants who are facing immense mental stress and pressure because of NEET UG schedule in July.
Now, taking their demands to the next level, the aspirants have written to the NTA, the agency in charge of conducting the medical entrance exam and prayed for postponement of the test as its scheduled date on July 17 is too close to other competitive exams.

In the letter, the MBBS aspirants said the date for this year's National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) has been announced, even though counselling for last year's exam hasn't finished, adds PTI.

"Many NEET aspirants and droppers from 2021 waited till the mop-up round of NEET 2021 counselling in the hope of getting a medical seat but didn't get one. The mop up round ended in the first week of April… in many states, state counselling is not finished till now," stated the letter.

Pointing out that the current schedule will be problematic for both the droppers and freshers, the letter further added, "This year, many students could not calculate their percentage of getting a seat due to the changed reservation policy in NEET 2021 counselling and suddenly after three days, NTA announced on April 6 that NEET 2022 will be conducted on 17 July 2022."

"Also, CUET is scheduled for 1st and 2nd weeks of July and JEE mains second attempt is scheduled from 21 July 2022. In between NEET on 17 July will be a great burden for students," the aspirants pointed out.

Last year's exam was initially scheduled for August 1 but was postponed to September 12 due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, citing the clash of the exam date with the schedule for previous year's counselling schedule, the aspirants of NEET PG 2022 had also been demanding a deferment of the exam. Even though several medical associations came in support of the students and some of the doctors approached the Supreme Court, the authorities did not agree to the demands for postponement.

The Supreme Court had last week dismissed petitions seeking postponement of the 2022 NEET-Post Graduate examinations, saying any change to the May 21 date "will create chaos and uncertainty and deficiency of doctors in hospitals".
