MCC Cancels Admission of JIPMER MBBS Student for claiming Dual Nativity
Puducherry: Taking action against the MBBS student from Kerala who obtained admission at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER), Puducherry by claiming dual nativity, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has now cancelled his admission.
MCC, operative under the Union Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has now issued directions to the JIPMER director for cancelling admission of the concerned student to the Puducherry campus. The student will now lose his seat to another candidate, adds TOI.
This comes after, the Madras High Court bench had directed the authorities to take action against the concerned student for availing the benefit of the nativity at two places. Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that observing that the MBBS aspirant had secured admission to JIPMER Puducherry on the basis of a false declaration submitting that he had not claimed the benefit of residence in any other state, the HC bench recently slammed the student.
The Court noted that the concerned student had availed the benefits of 'dual nativity' - both as a native of Puducherry and Kerala. Taking note of this, the HC bench of Justice CV Karthikeyan opined that in this way, the concerned candidate had denied an opportunity to another eligible candidate who would have applied only under one State.
Opining that such an act had to be considered seriously, the bench had observed, "It is clear that the fifth respondent had applied for a medical seat both in Puducherry and in Kerala. He should not have done that… I will have to take a serious view on this aspect and therefore, I would necessarily have to issue a Mandamus that the fifth respondent had obtained a seat in JIPMER, Puducherry surreptitiously and on the basis of a false declaration."
In this regard, the bench had further clarified that it cannot cancel the seat of the student and therefore, it issued directions to the college and the authorities for taking necessary action.
As per the latest media report by the Times of India, MCC has now taken action against the concerned MBBS aspirant from Kerala. Therefore, his seat at Puducherry Campus will go to another candidate, who had joined Jipmer's Karaikal campus. It was the second candidate who had approached the High Court after not getting admission in the Puducherry campus.
Writing to the director of JIPMER, MCC mentioned how the concerned student from Kerala joined JIPMER, Puducherry 'surreptitiously' on the basis of false representation.
"...this directorate recommends to cancel the seat allotted to the fifth respondent (Khalid) and to admit petitioner (Saminathan) at Jipmer, Puducherry campus, However, the vacancy at Jipmer, Karaikal campus, has to be addressed by the medical counselling committee as per rules," stated the committee.
