Patna: Bringing good news to the medical aspirants in Bihar, the Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (BCECEB) has announced that government medical college fees will be charged at 50 percent of seats at the private medical colleges and deemed universities.

BCECEB made this announcement in the recently released notice for online application and choice filling for the Undergraduate Medical Admission Counselling (UGMAC) -2025.

The Board has also clarified that the first 50% seats at private medical colleges and deemed universities of the State will be filled on the basis of merit-choice, and the fees for these seats will be at par with the fees fixed for government medical colleges. Thereafter, the rest of the 50% of seats will be filled at the fees of the concerned colleges/Deemed Universities.

"As per the provision of 5.1 of the Health Department’s resolution no. F.N.-1/Misc-42/2022-187(1) dated 14.03.2023 and F.N.-1/CE-05/2025-(Shadow File)-734(1) dated 29.07.2025, the admission and other fees for 50% of Under Graduate Medical Seats of all Private Colleges and Deemed University of the state of Bihar will be made at par with the fees fixed for Govt. Medical Colleges of the State," mentioned the notification dated 29.07.2025.

"1st 50% seat of Private Medical College / Deemed University will be filled on fees at par with the fees fixed for Govt. Medical College. After filling of 50% seat on merit-choice basis, rest 50% seat will be filled on fees of concerned colleges / Deemed University. All seats will be filled on merit-choice basis. Candidates are advised to refer to para 4.6 and 9 of the UGMAC Prospectus 2025," it added.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that back in 2023 the Bihar government had directed the self-financing medical colleges and deemed universities in the State to charge fees at par with the state-run medical colleges for 50 per cent of the total seats. Apart from this, the State Government had also decided to introduce a uniform fee structure in all the state-run medical colleges. The decisions in this regard were taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

After the implementation of this order, the MBBS fees for 50% of the private medical institutes became at par with MBBS course fees at government medical colleges in the State i.e. Rs 40,800.

As per the latest media report by Live Hindustan, BCECEB OSD Anil Kumar Sinha said that there are altogether 1350 MBBS seats available in nine private medical colleges in the State. Therefore, the government medical college fee structure will be applicable for the 675 MBBS seats. Meanwhile, the State has 12 government medical college hospitals.

BCECEB has already released the seat matrix for the MBBS and BDS courses at the government and private medical colleges in the State. According to the seat matrix, there are 1232 State Quota MBBS seats available at the GMCs and 1350 MBBS seats are avaulable at the private medical colleges.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the direction for charging government medical college fees at 50% private medical institutes was originally proposed by the National Medical Commission (NMC). The Commission had issued a direction to all the private medical colleges in the country to charge fees at par with the government institutes for 50 per cent of the total seats. However, challenging the NMC fee order, several private medical colleges had approached the High Courts and the matter is also pending before the Supreme Court.

At first, only the Madhya Pradesh Government implemented the NMC fee order and became the first State in India to implement the fee order issued by the Apex Medical Commission. Consequently, the Bihar Government announced that government medical colleges fees will be applicable for the 50% of the seats at private medical institutes.
