Tamil Nadu: The Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER), Tamil Nadu, has released the tentative counselling schedules for MBBS and BDS admissions for the 2026-27 session under Special Categories as well as the 7.5 percent preferential reservation for state Government School students.
Both counselling processes are scheduled to be held on August 13, 2026, at the Tamil Nadu Government Multi-Super Speciality Hospital, Omandurar Government Estate, Chennai.
As per the Special Category schedule, counselling will be conducted for Eminent Sports Persons, Children of Ex-Servicemen and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) for admission to MBBS and BDS courses in Tamil Nadu Government Medical and Dental Colleges.
The counselling for Eminent Sports Persons will begin at 8:00 AM and cover candidates from Serial Number 1 to 25 in the eligible list published on the official website. This will be followed by counselling for Children of Ex-Servicemen at 8:30 AM, covering Serial Numbers 1 to 30 from the respective eligible list. All eligible candidates under the Persons with Benchmark Disabilities category have been called for counselling at 9:00 AM.
The Selection Committee has further stated that the eligible list of Persons with Benchmark Disabilities will be published on August 12, 2026, on the official website.
On the same day, Round 1 counselling will also be conducted for candidates eligible under the 7.5% reservation for Tamil Nadu Government School students for admission to Government Medical and Dental Colleges, Government quota seats in self-financing medical and dental colleges, ESIC Medical College, K.K. Nagar, Chennai, and private universities.
The first session will begin at 10:00 AM for candidates across all communities with General Rank 1 to 448, corresponding to NEET UG 2026 scores from 599 to 469.
The second session will begin at 12:01 PM for candidates with General Rank 449 to 912, corresponding to NEET scores from 468 to 433. The session will also include candidates belonging to the reserved categories with the following community ranks-
1 SC: CR 129 to CR 156
2 SCA: CR 21 to CR 32
3 ST: CR 7 to CR 12.
The committee clarified that candidates attending counselling under the 7.5% Government School reservation need not pay the processing fee or tuition fee at the counselling stage.
Candidates appearing for Special Category counselling must bring a Demand Draft of Rs 500, payable at Chennai and drawn in favour of “The Secretary, Selection Committee, Chennai – 10”, towards the processing fee. The tuition fee payable at the time of allotment varies according to the course and category. For Government MBBS allotments, OC/BC/BCM/MBC candidates are required to pay Rs 18,073 plus Rs 500 processing fee, while SC/SCA/ST candidates with annual income above Rs 2.5 lakh must pay Rs 12,073 plus Rs 500. For Government BDS allotments, the corresponding tuition fee is Rs 16,073 for OC/BC/BCM/MBC candidates and Rs 12,073 for eligible SC/SCA/ST candidates with annual income above Rs 2.5 lakh, apart from the processing fee. For MBBS/BDS allotments under the PwBD category, the tuition fee specified is Rs 10,073, along with the Rs 500 processing fee.
Candidates appearing under both counselling schedules have been instructed to report one hour before the scheduled time along with one parent. They must bring original documents, including the NEET UG 2026 admit card and scorecard, Class 10 and 11 mark sheets, HSC/equivalent mark sheet, transfer certificate or bona fide certificate, nativity certificate, community certificate and community certificate of either parent.
For candidates under the 7.5% Government School quota, a bona fide certificate confirming study in a Tamil Nadu Government School from Classes 6 to 12 is required in cases where the candidate completed HSC before 2022 or where the EMIS number could not be matched and the candidate figured in the ineligible list.
For Special Category counselling, candidates who have studied completely in Tamil Nadu must also produce proof of study from Classes 6 to 12.
The Selection Committee has cautioned that more candidates have been called for counselling than the number of available seats, and therefore participation does not guarantee allotment. Candidates will be allowed to choose only from the vacancies available when their turn arrives. No individual call letters will be issued. Mobile phones and other communication devices will also not be permitted inside the counselling hall during a candidate's turn.
The counselling venue for both categories is Lecture Hall-II, Tamil Nadu Government Multi-Super Speciality Hospital, Omandurar Government Estate, Chennai-600002. The nearest public transport points are Simpson/Omandurar Bus Stop, Government Estate Metro Station and Chintadripet Railway Station.
