NEET PG Admission: Over 100 EWS Candidates Allotted to institutes with fees up to Rs 2 Crore

New Delhi: This year, more than 100 candidates belonging to the economically weaker section (EWS) category have been allotted costly PG medical seats in the open category under the self-financed quota in private colleges, where tuition fees for some of the courses can go up to Rs 2.1 crore over the three-year course, TOI has reported.
These allotments were made during the first round of the National Eligibility-Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET-PG) 2026 counselling.

According to a TOI report, one of the EWS candidates was allotted a seat in MS obstetrics and gynaecology at Padmashree Dr DY Patil Medical College, Navi Mumbai. The three-year tuition fee for this course at this college is around Rs 2 crore.
Another candidate was allotted an MD radio-diagnosis seat at Raja Rajeswari Medical College, Bengaluru. The three-year tuition fee is around Rs 1.8 crore.
These candidates had listed these colleges and courses as their preferred choices in the counselling and were allotted seats based on their preferences and rank. Now, they can either retain these seats, seek an upgrade or exit.
Medical Dialogues reported that last year, around 148 students belonging to the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) category had secured their PG medical admission by getting enrolled in the expensive management and NRI quota seats in private medical colleges during the first round of counselling for the post-graduate courses.
Consequently, the admission of such students, who come from a weaker financial background, and their willingness to pay exorbitant fees, which can go as high as Rs 1 crore per year, had drawn the attention of the Apex Medical Education Regulatory Body- the National Medical Commission.
Back then, the Head of the Apex Medical Education Regulator, NMC, had called for a probe in this regard at the State level.
