Not hybrid, NEET 2025 to be Conducted in Pen and Paper Mode in a Single Day, Shift

New Delhi: Not in hybrid mode, but the National Eligibility-Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET-UG) 2025 Examination will be conducted in pen and paper mode in a single day and single shift, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced.

NTA issued this clarification in a notice issued on 16th January 2025 after the National Medical Commission (NMC) took its decision in this regard.

"As decided by National Medical Commission (NMC), it is informed that the NEET (UG)-2025 shall be conducted in Pen and Paper mode (OMR based) in Single day and Single Shift," NTA mentioned in the order dated 16.01.2025.

Addressing the issue of conducting the NEET UG 2025 exam, NTA mentioned in the notice that it has been conducting the NEET UG exam since 2019 on the behalf of National Medical Commission (NMC).

"As per Section 14 of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019, the NEET (UG) has to be conducted as a common and uniform National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test [(NEET (UG)] for admission to undergraduate medical education in all medical institutions. Similarly, as per Section 14 of the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine Act, 2020, there shall be a uniform NEET (UG) for admission to undergraduate courses in each of the disciplines i.e. BAMS, BUMS, and BSMS courses of the Indian System of Medicine in all Medical Institutions governed under this Act. NEET (UG) shall also be applicable to admission to the BHMS course under the National Commission for Homeopathy," NTA Joint Director of Exams mentioned in the notice.

"MNS (Military Nursing Service) aspirants seeking admission to B.Sc. Nursing Courses being conducted at Armed Forces Medical Service Hospitals for the year 2025 are required to qualify for NEET (UG). The NEET (UG) score will be used for shortlisting for selection to the four-year B.Sc. Nursing course," it further added.

Clarifying that the NEET 2025 exam will be held in pen and paper mode, NTA added that for further clarification related to NEET (UG) 2025, the candidates can also contact 011- 40759000 or email at neetug2025@nta.ac.in. This clarification comes amid speculations on the possibility that the NEET UG exam, which is conducted in pen-and-paper mode, may get switched to the Computer-Based Test (CBT) system. The Union Education Ministry was in conversation with the Union Health Ministry in this regard to decide on the pattern of holding the NEET-UG exam, PTI had reported.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the High-Level Committee set up to suggest reforms in the National Eligibility-Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET-UG) examination and the National Testing Agency (NTA), had earlier recommended introducing some major changes in conducting the NEET exam such as holding the exam online or through hybrid mode (when online mode is not possible to implement), not opting for private exam centres, shifting to a 2-phase exam pattern for NEET, and introducing a restriction to the number of attempts to appear in the NEET UG examination.
