PG Medical Seat Blocking Scam: ED Questions BRS Leader Narasimha Rao
Telangana- In an update to the medical seat fraud case, recently, Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials questioned Chalimeda Anand Rao Institute of Medical Sciences chairman and BRS leader Chalimeda Lakshmi Narasimha Rao.
On Friday, Chalmedha was questioned by the ED in connection with alleged irregularities in seat blocking among several persons. ED officials recorded Chalmedha’s statement in connection with the medical seats which were blocked by the management and were allegedly sold as charity seats to students by collecting huge amounts of money.
Allegedly, around 45 seats under the convener quota seats based on NEET PG merit were blocked using the names of students from northern states. Upon reaching out, university officials found that these students had never applied for admission to KNRUHS.
It is suspected that some private colleges manipulated these blocked seats by transferring them to the NRI quota for a hefty sum. During admissions, university officials flagged anomalies in the merit list of 45 applicants, later confirming that the candidates did not intend to take admission to KNRUHS, ultimately depriving eligible local students of their rightful seats, report TOI.
Meanwhile, it was reported that ED officials have got some more clues regarding the irregularities and have started sending notices and questioning the medical college management on suspicion of fake seat allotment by collecting huge amounts of money in the form of cash from the students.
On this, Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the ED has issued notices to former Minister Malla Reddy. Malla Reddy served as Telangana Minister for Labour and Employment before his term ended. As along with several other medical colleges, Malla Reddy Institute of Medical Sciences was also one of the medical colleges affiliated with KNRUHS that was raided by the ED.
The investigation is the ongoing part of the alleged seat-blocking fraud and irregularities in the financial transactions, ED officials had conducted raids on 12 medical colleges in Telangana. Allegedly, some medical colleges, which are affiliated with Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS), sold the seats for higher prices by blocking them in a dubious manner last year.
