Wanting to become MBBS doctor, 67 year old takes NEET 2026 retest in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Making a second attempt, a 67-year-old man appeared for the re-examination of the NEET UG 2026 in Hyderabad, as there is no age limit for taking the MBBS entrance exam.
The medical aspirant seeking to become a doctor has been identified as Karunakaran David. He stated that after returning to India from Yemen, he could not continue his medical studies because he did not possess a domicile certificate.
According to Deccan Chronicle, David spent part of his childhood in Yemen and later returned to India to build a career in government service. However, his desire to become a doctor never faded. His mother was a senior doctor who wanted her son to enter the medical field; that wish stayed with David long after she had passed away.
There is no upper age limit for candidates appearing for NEET-UG, the gateway to medical course admissions across India. This grants individuals like Karunakaran David the right to pursue their education at any stage of life. His participation serves as proof that, given the necessary dedication and preparation, education is not bound by age.
The National Testing Agency successfully conducted the NEET 2026 re-examination on June 21 for more than 20 lakh candidates across 5,440 examination centres in India and 14 centres abroad.
The examination, held in 13 languages including Hindi and English, was conducted under extensive security and monitoring arrangements following the cancellation of the earlier NEET-UG exam amid allegations of irregularities.
According to the NTA, the re-examination was completed through a large-scale coordinated effort involving multiple Central and State Government agencies, educational institutions and nearly seven lakh personnel, including police officials, observers and examination staff. Special arrangements were made for over 10,000 Persons with Disabilities (PwD) and several candidates with serious medical conditions to ensure their participation in the examination.
