10 MBBS students accused of ragging freshers will be suspended: Patna Medical College Principal
Patna: The principal of Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH), announced that the 10 medical students who have been accused of ragging freshers will be suspended for a period of 10 days.
Speaking to HT, Dr. Choudhary stated that the decision to suspend the delinquent students and impose a fine was taken at a meeting of heads of departments of PMCH.. The identification of these students was facilitated by photographic evidence of the incident.
According to a report in HT, the authorities received a complaint from a parent of a first-year medical student who had enrolled earlier in the month. The complaint highlighted an incident of the student being confined by senior peers at the Jeevak student hostel on a Thursday.

Dr. Choudhary stated that a group of senior faculty members and himself visited the Jeevak hostel, where they successfully liberated the confined student. Furthermore, they were able to identify 10 MBBS students involved in the incident through photographic evidence, adds HT.
The principal confirmed their decision to reach out to the parents or guardians of the students who were identified for their involvement in ragging, with the aim of advising them to guide their wards appropriately.
“Every year senior medicos get the new batch of students to introduce themselves. Now, if you call this ragging, yes, we do have such incidents almost every year,” the principal told HT.
Dr. SN Sinha, the vice-chancellor of Bihar University of Health Sciences (BUHS), has acknowledged the reports of ragging incidents on campus and has requested a factual report from the institution's principal.
Dr. SN Sinha emphasized that every college is required to have an anti-ragging committee, which should have conducted an inquiry into the incident. Dr. Sinha, in his capacity as the vice-chancellor, has formally requested a report from the principal regarding the actions taken against the students involved in the prohibited act of ragging. The vice-chancellor mentioned that the university administration will determine its course of action after receiving the report from the principal.
