27 Medical Colleges approved in Uttar Pradesh under the centrally sponsored scheme: Dr Harsh Vardhan
New Delhi: The Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Harsh Vardhan, recently laid a statement in Rajya Sabha giving details of the new medical colleges approved to be set up in the state of Uttar Pradesh under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme for "Establishment of new medical colleges attached with existing district/referral hospitals".
"Under three phases of the above Scheme, the establishment of 27 new medical colleges has been approved in Uttar Pradesh, as proposed by the State Government. However, no proposal is received from the State Government of Uttar Pradesh for establishment of new medical college in Ballia district under the said scheme", said the Minister.
The Minister was responding to a series of questions in Rajya Sabha pertaining to the details of medical colleges in the country set up during the last three years and the current year till date under Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS)
In his response in the parliament, the minister said "the ministry of Health and Family Welfare administers a Centrally Sponsored Scheme for "Establishment of new medical colleges attached with existing district/referral hospitals". The establishment of 157 new Medical Colleges has been approved under the Scheme in three phases. The fund sharing ratio between the Central Government and States under the Scheme is 90:10 for NE/Special Category States and 60:40 for other States."
While responding to the query regarding medical colleges approved for the state of Uttar Pradesh , the minister presented a detailed list of approvals given under three phases of the scheme.
According to the written statement, while 5 medical colleges were approved during the first phase of the scheme, an approval for 8 and 14 medical colleges was granted in the second and third phase, respectively, of the said scheme.

Dr. Harsh Vardhan also briefed the upper house about the progress made under various phases of the central scheme implemented in different states of the country.
"Under Phase-I of the Scheme launched in January, 2014, 58 medical colleges in 20 States/UT have been approved for establishment of medical colleges. Out of these 58 medical colleges, 46 have become functional.
Under Phase-II of the Scheme launched in February, 2018, 24 new medical colleges in 8 States have been approved.
Under Phase-III of the Scheme launched in August, 2019, 75 new medical colleges have been approved in 18 States/UTs. Out of these, one medical college has become functional," said the minister.

She has pursued her BDS from Himachal Dental College, affiliated to Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla.
