7 students of Fatehpur Medical College expelled after 2 injured freshmen allege ragging
Lucknow: Taking action against 7 senior students of Fatehpur Medical College for assaulting two freshmen who opposed an alleged ragging attempt on them, the principal of the institution expelled them from the hostel recently until further notice.
The seniors were expelled for gross indiscipline and disruption of the campus environment and will remain barred from the hostel until further notice. This comes after reports indicated that juniors were injured in an alleged assault.
The incident occurred on Monday when the two juniors who recently joined the medical college this year stood up against the alleged ragging from the seniors, leading to an attack on them. While the students' complaint did not specifically reference ragging, it did suggest that they were subjected to an assault.
It is reported that the attack caused injuries to the students who were rushed to the district hospital after other students found them in the hostel. The injured students further claimed that the attack was linked to ragging activities, as per HT .
Meanwhile, Principal RP Singh described the incident as a brawl rather than ragging and explained that the students would remain expelled till further orders.
Dr Rajesh Kumar, head of the trauma centre at the district hospital told HT "The two students were admitted with injuries on Monday night and are undergoing treatment."
Medical Dialogues had previously reported that the authorities of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College and Hospital (MGMMCH) filed a police complaint against five MBBS interns for allegedly ragging their juniors from the 2021 and 2023 batches.
In the complaint, the juniors alleged that the seniors often arrived at night in a drunken state, playing loud music that coerced them to dance to popular tunes. On the night of June 29, they claimed that the five accused seniors came to their hostel room in an intoxicated state and demanded that the juniors join them in drinking. Then, they were told to undress and dance.
Further, they claimed that the environment of alcohol consumption, loud music, and intimidation disturbed their studies and created a sense of fear among their peers.
