Basaveshwara Medical College 2nd-year student hangs self due to academic pressure
Chitragurga: In an unfortunate incident, a 22-year-old second-year medical student of Basaveshwara Medical College and Hospital, Chitradurga allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling in his hostel room recently.
According to his classmates, the student looked distressed a day before taking the extreme step on Thursday morning. His father alleged that they were unaware of his mental state as he did not disclose to his family that he was facing academic pressure.
In the suicide note recovered by the police, the student wrote "I am unable to pursue my education. I am responsible for my death."
The incident came to light when his classmates received no response from him after knocking on his door. They found the door closed from inside. Worried about their friend, they peeped through the window and saw him hanging.
Following the incident, the police rushed to the spot after receiving information and conducted a preliminary investigation which led to the discovery of the suicide note.
The student hailed from Channarayapatna in Hassan. He is survived by his parents, elder brother and a sister. His father is an agriculturalist.
Speaking to TOI, his father said "He had never disclosed he was facing academic pressure. I spoke to him on Tuesday and his mother the day later. He told her he would come home on the weekend."
A police officer said, "His classmates stated that he looked disturbed on Wednesday. To cheer him up, they had taken him for coffee in the evening. One of his friends even asked Manoj whether to accompany him to his room and sleep there. However, Manoj turned it down, saying he was OK and had some personal issues."
