MBBS admissions to start at Machilipatnam medical college from next academic year
Machlipatnam: Machilipatnam Medical College is all set to welcome its first batch of MBBS students from the next academic session, informed District Collector P Ranjith Basha. The institution is still under construction but the construction work is going at a high pace.
He headed a meeting of the Hospital Development Society where he reviewed the progress of college, hospital administration, treatment, and facilities available for the patients here on Friday. Machilipatnam MLA Perni Nani, DMHO Geethabai, and other officials attended the meeting.
The Collector stated that once the medical college in Machilipatnam is attached to Gudivada Government Hospital, it will be upgraded to a district hospital. During the meeting, the Collector directed officials and doctors to provide adequate health care to patients. He stated that the rates for hospital ambulance services will be set by a committee comprised of the DSP, hospital administrator, and transportation department officials, reports Hans India.
Before beginning the meeting, the Collector visited the hospital grounds and recommended improvement of the garden as well as effective management of rubbish and debris to eliminate those from the premises. During the meeting, the hospital development society decided to outsource more staff to modernize the Arogya Sri Ward, among other things.
The Minister of State for the Union Health Ministry recently confirmed before the Parliament that 3 medical colleges have been approved in Andhra Pradesh under Phase III of this scheme. Although there were seven proposals for setting up medical colleges in the State, three of them have been sanctioned and those three medical colleges are going to come up at Piduguralla, Paderu, and Machilipatnam. In 2020, the revenue division confirmed that almost 30 acres of land were handed over to the Directorate of Medical Education to start the construction work of the medical college in Machilipatnam.
