HIMS PG medico assaulted by attendants over alleged delay in patient's treatment, 3 arrested

Hassan: In a shocking incident, a post-graduate medical student at the Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS) was reportedly assaulted by attendants of an injured patient following a dispute over a delay in treatment. This led to an immediate protest by doctors and hospital staff who boycotted their duties for nearly two hours, demanding action against the attackers.

According to the hospital authorities, four individuals were involved in the assault on the student. Among them, three have been taken into custody and the police have assured that the fourth accused will be arrested soon. All of them have been booked in connection with the case.

As per The Hindu news report, the incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. on February 24 when the group brought a man to the hospital who had sustained injuries in a bike accident. Within moments, they reportedly became agitated over what they claimed was a delay in treatment and soon entered into an argument with the hospital staff. The situation quickly turned into a serious turn when they reportedly assaulted the PG student.

Condemning the attack on the medico, the doctors and staff of the hospital staged a protest demanding the immediate arrest of the culprits. They also refused to resume their work until the police intervened and captured three of the attackers.

In this regard, the police registered a case under relevant sections of BNS and launched an investigation to nab the fourth accused.

Speaking to The Hindu, HIMS Director Dr. B. Rajappa today said "The staff staged a protest for two hours following the assault. The police booked a case against four persons and took three of them into custody. They have assured us that the fourth person would be arrested soon."

Medical Dialogues recently reported about miscreants who brutally thrashed a doctor. The doctor who was on his way to Ursu was allegedly brutally assaulted by two unidentified assailants. The assailants reportedly struck him with an iron rod, leaving him with severe injuries. The assailants travelling in a two-wheeler intercepted the doctor's car and allegedly hit his head with an iron rod. Following the attack, the private medical practitioner was lying in a pool of blood. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital from MGM Hospital for further medical treatment.
