Kalpana Chawla Government Medical college students allege sexual harassment by OT technician
Karnal: The students of Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College and Hospital (KCGMCH) in Karnal have filed a complaint against an OT technician accusing him of sexual harassment and mental harassment.
The students of BSc (OT technician) first year batch filed a written complaint with the Barkhal MLA Seema Trikha, who is a chairperson of the committee which conducted the inspection. The matter came to the fore following an inspection by a committee of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha, which consisted of around 11 members including the Assandh MLA Shamsher Singh, Kalavali MLA Shishpal Singh and Baroda MLA Indu Raj Narwal.

Further, they also submitted a complaint with the chief minister in which they observed that the technician have been harassing them physically and mentally for the past few months. They further accused him of luring students by promising them a job at the PGIMER, Chandigarh.
He allegedly offered a Vrindavan tour from January 22 to 26 and promised attendance. However, when the students refused his offer, he reportedly began harassing them, reports the Hindustan Times. He was accused of making double meaning filthy jokes and using abusive language to women students.
In the complaint submitted, they mentioned, "The accused was sending us dirty messages and harassing us for not replying. He used to ask the girls to wear deep necked clothes so that their beauty bone was visible." The accused made the students sit in the operation theater for hours without work, reports the Reet Feed.
The students said that, "the trainer used to emotionally blackmail us by saying that he was our only well-wisher in college and that our parents also wish you well."
Demanding strict action against the OT technician, the students have requested the intervention of the Chief Minister. Assuring a fair investigation, Trikha stated that the matter has been referred to the internal complaint authority who have been directed to submit the report within 15 days. Future action would be determined according to the findings of the internal committee report, Trikha said.
Menawhile, the director of the KCGMCH, Dr JC Dureja, action would be taken based on the finding report of the investigation as directed by Vidhan Sabha committee, and added that the OT technician has been sent on a leave for three weeks. He has been banned from entering the college campus and contacting the complainants.
