Kozhikode GMC nursing student commits suicide

Kozhikode: In an unfortunate incident, a 20-year-old second-year nursing student of Government Medical College, Kozhikode allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan in her private hostel room.

As per a TOI news report, the medical college police in their investigation revealed that the student died from suicide as her issues in her personal life are reported to have led her to take the extreme step of ending her life. A suicide note written by the student was recovered from the spot which mentioned that no one was responsible for her death.

However, the family members of the deceased student have claimed that she had no reason to commit suicide and found her death suspicious. Therefore, they have demanded a detailed investigation.

The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon at around 12 when the roommate found the student hanging in the room. Following this, the police were informed who sent her body for a postmortem on Wednesday.

Raising suspicion of foul play, her family members told TOI, "There was no reason for her to commit suicide. Even after we enquired, we couldn't find any issue. So, her death is mysterious. We will lodge a complaint with the city police commissioner demanding a thorough probe."

A case was registered in this regard and an investigation is underway.

Medical Dialogues had previously reported that a 22-year-old nursing student allegedly committed suicide by consuming a harmful substance at her residence in Vivekananda Street. It appeared that she was under extreme stress due to her studies, as a suicide note recovered from the scene revealed that she was struggling with study-related stress.
