MBBS Intern found dead at CIMS hostel, probe underway

Raipur: In an unfortunate incident, a 26-year-old MBBS medico undergoing an internship at a primary healthcare centre in Ambikapur allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan in her hostel room under mysterious circumstances.

It is unclear why the doctor took such an extreme step and the police are currently investigating all possible angles to determine the reason for her death. According to the police, she ended her life on Monday after returning from a relative's wedding.

The deceased doctor was an MBBS student of the 2018 batch. After completing her medical studies at Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Science (CIMS), Bilaspur in 2023, the doctor was doing her internship at Sukhri Primary Healthcare Centre in Ambikapur.

As per a TOI news report, the incident happened after the doctor attended a wedding on Saturday in Bilaspur. As she was a former student of CIMS, she decided to stay with one of her friends at CIMS hostel. After attending the wedding, she returned to the hostel at night. Her friend with whom she was sharing the room had gone out for some work around noon on the next day. After returning to the hostel, she witnessed the dead body of the doctor hanging.

Immediately, her friend took her to the hospital but the doctor declared her brought dead. Following this, the police reached the spot upon getting information and sent her body for postmortem. They had informed her parents about the incident.

During the preliminary investigation, the police recovered no suicide note and are interviewing her friends, colleagues and relatives to understand the reason for her suicide. Meanwhile, CIMS management said she was a very bright student.

A case has been registered and an investigation is underway.
