MGM Indore gets NMC permission for 21 seats in General Medicine
With the nod for these 21 PG seats in the general medicine department of the college, MGM Indore has now altogether 35 seats in the medicine department. In Madhya Pradesh, MGMMC has now the highest number of PG seats and also the highest number of seats in medicine department.
Indore: Bringing good news to the postgraduate medical aspirants in Madhya Pradesh, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has given its permission for increasing 21 PG seats in general medicine at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College (MGMMC).
The nod from the Apex medical commission has come after a peer team of the Commission inspected the facilities and infrastructure of the medical college and associated hospitals.
Now, the college has received the Letter of Intent from the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the Commission on the basis of the assessors' report. The permission has been given for the academic year 2023-2024.
With the nod for these 21 PG seats in the general medicine department of the college, MGM Indore has now altogether 35 seats in the medicine department. In Madhya Pradesh, MGMMC has now the highest number of PG seats and also the highest number of seats in medicine department.
Formerly known as King Edward Medical School, MGM Medical College, Indore is one of the oldest medical colleges in India. The college has been offering MBBS courses since 1948 and consequently PG medical courses were introduced in the medical college back in 1953. Currently, the medical college offers undergraduate medical education in around 250 MBBS seats.
In the last two years, more than 140 PG medical seats were added to the college in several departments including obstetrics and gynaecology, pathology, general medicine, and anatomy.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that last year MGM Indore had applied for an increase of 21 PG medical seats in Medicine. Apart from the request for an increase of seats in the Medicine Department, the college had also applied for seats in Emergency Medicine and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) department.
As per the latest media report by Free Press Journal, the college has now received NMC nod for increasing 21 PG seats in general medicine department of the medical college. Speaking about this, the Dean of the Institute, Dr. Sanjay Dixit informed that MARB issued the LOI after a peer team of NMC inspected the facilities and infrastructure of the college and associated hospitals.
“We have all the equipment and facilities for increasing 21 more PG seats in the medicine department. We have also completed the recruitment of faculty members as we have recently appointed five assistant/associate professors in the department and didn’t have to submit any compliance for the same,” Dr. Dixit told the FPJ.
The college has the maximum number of PG medical seats in Madhya Pradesh. There are around 282 PG medical seats along with 4 super speciality seats in the college.
According to the data shared by the Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar earlier this year, there are altogether 4180 MBBS seats in Madhya Pradesh. Among these, 2180 MBBS seats are in 14 government medical institutes and another 2000 seats are available at 11 medical colleges run by private management. In respect of PG medical seats, the State has altogether 1935 PG seats including 1856 MD/MS seats, and 79 DM/MCH seats.
