Nalanda Medical College Patna 146 MBBS students suspended for 3 months for alleged ragging

Patna: Taking serious cognisance of alleged ragging at Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) in Patna, the college administration has suspended 146 students of the 2025 MBBS batch for three months and directed them to vacate their hostels and leave the campus within 24 hours.
The allegations include claims that junior female students were taken to the hostel rooftop late at night and harassed.
In addition, students from the 2023 and 2024 batches have also been suspended pending further orders.
The matter came to light after complaints were submitted to the National Medical Commission (NMC), the All India Anti-Ragging Committee and the Bihar Grievance Cell.

Following the complaints, the college administration launched an investigation into allegations that junior female students were taken to a hostel rooftop around midnight and subjected to ragging and that junior students were stopped and asked to disclose their names and addresses.
Another complaint also emerged about the circulation of a PDF document among newly admitted students through their mobile phones. The document reportedly contained photographs of the principal and teachers from three departments, along with instructions presented as college rules.
According to the college administration, the document included the names of 146 students from the 2025 batch. Principal Professor Usha Kumari said these students had been suspended for three months and would not be allowed to attend classes until January 2027, reports Patna Press.
The administration is investigating the document to establish who prepared it, who circulated it and whether others were involved. The individual roles of those named in the document have not yet been established.
Meanwhile, the college has forwarded the available evidence concerning the alleged ragging incidents and circulation of the PDF to the cyber cell for investigation. It has also written to the Bihar government seeking appropriate action based on the findings.
