NMC flags deficiencies in SNM Medical College proposal to increase PG seats, new courses
Dhanbad: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has flagged deficiencies in the proposal submitted by Shaheed Nirmal Mahto Medical College and Hospital (SNMMCH) for the expansion of PG seats and the introduction of four new courses.
The deficiencies were reportedly related to the available facilities and some of the details given by the college in its proposal.
The shortcomings were revealed after the Apex Medical Commission conducted an online inspection of the institute using an AI-based tool, according to a report by Prabhat Khabar.
Following the inspection, the college management is preparing to address the deficiencies and submit a compliance report to the NMC.

According to Prabhat Khabar, the proposal submitted by the college management seeks a total of nine additional seats across existing postgraduate (PG) departments. This includes a proposal to increase the number of seats by three in Orthopedics and two in Gynecology. Applications have also been made for additional seats in other existing PG disciplines. In addition to increasing seats in existing departments, SNMMCH has also sent a proposal to the NMC to launch PG courses in four new departments. The request includes five PG seats for Anesthesia, two for Ophthalmology, four for Pathology, and five for Pediatrics.
In addition to increasing seats in existing departments, SNMMCH has also submitted a proposal to the Commission seeking permission to start PG courses in four new departments.
However, while reviewing the proposal, the Commission found deficiencies in the facilities and claims mentioned by the college and directed the institute to address them.
After addressing the deficiencies identified during the online inspection, the college management will submit a report to the NMC.
The Commission may then conduct a second online inspection. If the NMC is still not satisfied with the college's facilities and claims, the Commission's team may visit SNMMCH and conduct a physical inspection. In such a case, the final decision on increasing PG seats will depend on meeting the prescribed standards.
The final decision on the proposed seat increase will be based on the NMC's inspection, the facilities available at the colleg,e and its compliance with the prescribed standards.
