NMC Permission for Two Private Medical Colleges in Gujarat, 300 MBBS seats to be added
Ahmedabad: Bringing good news to the medical aspirants in Gujarat, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has given its permission for two private medical colleges in Gujarat.
The Apex medical commission has granted approval for 150 seats in each of these two colleges located in Kalol in the Gandhinagar district of the State.
With this, another 300 MBBS seats have been added to the State's seat matrix ahead of medical admissions this year. Both of these two private medical colleges will be affiliated to the Gujarat University.
According to the data shared by the Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar during a recent question hour held at Rajya Sabha, there are altogether 37 medical colleges in Gujarat with an intake capacity for 6600 MBBS seats.
Among these, 4250 MBBS seats are available in 23 Government medical colleges in the State and another 2350 MBBS seats are located in 14 private medical colleges.
The latest media report by the Times of India adds that the National Medical Commission has given its permission for 300 MBBS seats in two private medical colleges in the Gandhinagar district of the State. With the permission for an additional 300 MBBS seats, altogether 6900 MBBS seats will be available for admission for the medical aspirants in Gujarat.
Sources informed the daily that if the Commission approves more private medical colleges before the commencement of the medical admission process, the availability of MBBS seats will get increased further.
Earlier this year, while answering a question on the establishment of new medical colleges under the Centrally sponsored scheme for establishment of new medical colleges attached to existing district or referral hospitals, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya had informed the Parliament that there among the 157 new medical colleges being set up under the scheme, five will be set up in Gujarat in Narmada, Navsari, Panchmahal, Porbandar and Morbi districts, adds TOI.
