Ragging at Dr SN medical college Jodhpur: Junior resident among 19 medicos suspended after MBBS students' complaint

Jaipur: The administration of Dr SN Medical College in Jodhpur has suspended 19 medicos, including a junior resident, following an investigation into allegations of ragging and misconduct against junior MBBS students.
Of the 19 individuals, five, including the junior resident, have been suspended for three months, while the remaining 14 students have been suspended for one month.
The action was taken after the Anti-Ragging Committee of Dr SN Medical College, Jodhpur, had launched an inquiry after junior MBBS students of the 2026 batch accused senior students of ragging, mental harassment and forcing them to address their seniors as 'Boss'.
The junior students jointly submitted a complaint to the National Medical Commission (NMC), which forwarded it to the college administration and directed it to conduct an immediate investigation. In their complaint, the students alleged that senior students used inappropriate language with them under the pretext of introductions and repeatedly pressured them to address their seniors as 'Boss' during conversations.
Following the NMC's communication, college Principal Dr BS Jodha referred the complaint to the Anti-Ragging Committee and directed it to investigate the allegations and take necessary action.
After the inquiry, the committee suspended 19 individuals, including the junior resident. During the suspension period, those penalised will be barred from clinical postings, academic activities and educational programmes. They will also be prohibited from entering college hostels, libraries and reading rooms.
According to the complaint, first-year MBBS students alleged that senior students had subjected them to intimidation, humiliation and indecent behaviour, besides imposing arbitrary rules.
As per IANS report, the dispute reportedly erupted during a 'Clean Campus Drive' organised on the college premises on October 28. The junior students alleged that seniors from the 2025 batch were forcing them to remain clean-shaven, maintain specified hairstyles, stand for extended periods and wear formal clothes.
Earlier, the Government Medical College in Rajasthan’s Barmer took disciplinary action against 80 students after an inquiry into complaints that seniors subjected juniors to obscene WhatsApp messages, verbal abuse and mental harassment. The college administration imposed the penalties following an investigation and recommendations from its Anti-Ragging Committee.
Ragging complaints across 12 Rajasthan medical colleges
A few days ago, the United Doctors Front (UDF) wrote to Rajasthan CM, Commissioner DME and DGP Rajasthan pointing out that in the month of October, instances of ragging were reported from a total of 12 medical colleges. Medical Dialogues reported on several of these ragging complaints and the National Medical Commission's directions issued in this regard.
The association has drawn attention to complaints and/or related regulatory interventions concerning 12 medical institutes across Rajasthan, including Government Medical College Kota, Dr. S.N. Medical College Jodhpur, Bhilwara Medical College, Government Medical College Chittorgarh, Sardar Patel Medical College Bikaner, ESIC Medical College Jaipur, Mahatma Gandhi Medical College Jaipur, JIET Medical College Jodhpur, and medical colleges in Dausa, Sawai Madhopur, Pali and Barmer.
In view of such repeated complaints of ragging, harassment and intimidation reported from medical colleges across the State during October 2026, UDF sought independent statewide investigation, institutional accountability and a coordinated anti-ragging monitoring mechanism to deal with the issue.
The representation was also submitted to the Commissioner, Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Rajasthan, and the Director General of Police (DGP), Rajasthan, seeking coordinated administrative and police-level intervention to ensure student safety, independent investigation and effective enforcement of anti-ragging regulations.
