RDJM medical college makes Rs 3.75 lakh hostel fee mandatory for MBBS students before internship, doctors' body cites NMC norms violation

Muzaffarpur: The administration of RDJM Medical College and Hospital in Muzaffarpur recently directed its MBBS medicos from the 2021 batch to mandatorily deposit a hostel fee of Rs 3.75 lakh before they can begin their compulsory rotatory medical internship.

The college clarified that the internship will commence only after the hostel fee has been deposited, and advised students to complete the payment within the stipulated time to avoid any delay in the start of their internship.

In a notice issued by the Office of the Principal on July 4, 2026, the college congratulated the 2021 batch for achieving a 100% pass result in the Final MBBS examination. The institute said the process for provisional registration has been initiated and that the one-year Compulsory Rotatory Medical Internship (CRMI) will begin after completion of the registration process.

However, the college stated that all interns will be required to stay in the college hostel throughout the internship period and staying outside the campus during the internship will not be permitted.

"Congratulations to all the students of the 2021 Batch on successfully passing the Final MBBS Examination. The Management, Principal, Faculty Members, and Staff of RDJM Medical College & Hospital extend their heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all of you on this remarkable achievement. Your outstanding performance has contributed to the institution achieving a 100% pass result. Students are hereby informed that the process for Provisional Registration is being initiated. Upon completion of the registration process, the one-year Compulsory Rotatory Medical Internship will commence. As per the rules, all interns are required to reside in the college hostel throughout the internship period. Staying outside the campus during the internship shall not be permitted," the notice mentioned.

The notice further directed all students to deposit a hostel fee of Rs 3,75,000 into the college account as soon as possible.

The institute made it clear that students who fail to pay the hostel fee will not be allowed to stay in the hostel and warned that any student found residing in the hostel without depositing the hostel fee will be treated as an unauthorised occupant, and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against the concerned.

"It is hereby clarified that the internship will commence only after the hostel fee has been deposited. Therefore, all concerned students are advised to complete the fee payment within the stipulated time to avoid any delay in the commencement of their internship," the notice added.

Reacting to the notice, the United Doctors Front (UDF) alleged that the college is illegally withholding the Compulsory Rotatory Medical Internship (CRMI) of the 2021 batch and forcing interns to pay Rs 3.75 lakh as hostel fees while making hostel residence compulsory.

In a post on X, the doctors' body claimed that these conditions are in violation of the National Medical Commission (NMC) Regulations. It said it has written to the National Medical Commission (NMC), the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), and other authorities, seeking immediate intervention.

UDF then demanded the unconditional commencement of the internship for the affected students and a refund of any fees allegedly collected under coercion.
