TN: Sree Balaji Medical College Hospital granted 6 patents
The college is already in talks with companies in India and abroad for the technology transfer and commercialization of its patents.
Chennai: Sree Balaji Medical College and Hospital, BIHER-Bharath University, has become the only private institution of medical education in Tamil Nadu to be granted as many as six patents.
It has filed for 50 patents so far and is aiming to take the number to 100 by the end of the current academic year.

All the six patents were granted by the Indian Patent Office recently, according to a release.
The patents are for the following products and processes:
1.Apparatus or determining bone mineral density
2. Pharmaceutical composition exhibiting antiviral activity against Human parainfluenza virus.
3. ECO – Embalming fluid
4. A fixative changing pump for removing used old formalin from museum jars
5.A novel biocompatible sustained- release nano-particle pharmaceutical formulation for treating multi drug resistant bacteria.
6. Bio- synthesis of Egg albumin doped Zinc oxide nanoparticles exhibiting anti cancer property.

''Instead of selling licenses outright, it looks for co-development and or co-branding opportunities", the release said.
