Stipend Due for 5 Months: JJM Medical College Interns Organise Procession
Davangere: Infuriated with the Medical college and the Government for not paying them the stipend for the last five months, the intern doctors at the JJM Medical College, Davangere, organized a procession today from CG hospital to Jayadevappa circle.
This comes in continuation with the candlelight march by the medicos on Thursday, where they were seen holding placards mentioning "Called A Hero But Paid Zero", "Our Stipend Our Right" etc.
In fact, the healthcare services at the medical college have also been suspended, except for the emergency and casualty cases, an intern doctor of the medical college told Medical Dialogues on the condition of anonymity.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that while the management of the college has clarified that it is responsibility of the Government to pay these doctors, the Health Minister of the State Dr. K Sudhakar has allegedly told the students that they have already directed the management to pay the interns and it is not the government's responsibility anymore.

While commenting on the matter, an intern doctor from the 2016 MBBS Batch told Medical Dialogues, "Since we haven't heard anything from the authorities yet, we organized a procession today and the District Minister has assured us that he has already approached the Health Secretary regarding the matter and he expects to hear something about it by Monday."
"However, we are not very sure regarding this assurance since no one knew anything about it- from students to the District authorities and in fact if we would have known about this we wouldn't initiate the strike at the first place," he added.
"Until the time, the issue gets sorted we will continue our protest and we will start the street plays and other activities from tomorrow," further added the doctor.
