Tamil Nadu: Siddha Medical College Students on strike demanding Campus Relocation
Tamil Nadu- On Monday, the students of Government Siddha Medical College in Palayamkottai, Tamil Nadu, went on a strike, urging the government to relocate the college and hospital to a more suitable location. Wearing black badges on the dharna, the students have stated that they will continue the strike for at least a week.
The strike took place after the government allocated ₹40 crore for constructing new buildings for the college and the hospital lay unused.
Speaking to The Hindu, the students stated “Since some of the influential faculty members of the college and the hospital do not want the relocation of this campus to a spacious place in Tirunelveli or Palayamkottai outskirts, they are feeding the government with fake information. Hence, the funds being allocated for the new buildings cannot be utilized. The government should understand the ulterior motive behind the college authorities and find a new place for relocating the college, hospital and hostel to create better facilities”.
Now, the students have announced that they will continue the agitation for at least a week to draw the attention of the government with the hope of shifting the college and hospital to a new location.
