The Newly-Inaugurated Virudhunagar Govt Medical College (VGMC) gets its first student
The first student who got admission with a distinction to the college is V. Jayadarshini from Cumbum.
Hindu reports that after scoring 275 marks in NEET, she got admission as a student of a government school under the 7.5% quota for MBBS admissions and chose to study at the newly-inaugurated VGMC. The VGMC received permission from the National Medical Commission to admit around 150 students to the MBBS course.

Having studied hard since childhood, Jayadarshini harbored the ambition to pursue medicine after her cousin joined dental college a few years back .She did not take any private coaching, she made into the medical college by preparing for the NEET coaching offered by the State Government. Dean J. Sangumani on Monday handed over the admission letter to Jayadarshini.
It was a strange coincidence that Jayadarshini's father, Venkatesh, happens to be a student of the Dean's father Jeyaraman, who was a teacher at MPM High School in Cumbum.
Jayadarshini comes from a well-known family, where her father was a teacher at MPM High School.
As per reports in The Hindu, Dr. Sangumani told that "VGMC had all the infrastructure to fulfill the dreams of students like Jayadarshini. She would get a full scholarship from the State government for her entire course."
