Waking up to NMC show cause, Telangana Medical Colleges to Recruit 1651 Faculty

Hyderabad: Aiming to fill the vacancies and meet the standards set by the National Medical Commission (NMC), the Telangana Health Department has decided to recruit around 1651 faculty members in the government medical colleges.
Among these 1651 posts, a recruitment drive will be conducted for 1,323 posts of Assistant Professors and 328 posts of Associate Professors, the Director of Medical Education (DME), A Narendra Kumar, informed the Times of India.
This comes after the NMC issued a show-cause notice to 26 government medical colleges across the State, citing inadequate infrastructure. Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that NMC, while issuing the show-cause, had highlighted deficiencies in infrastructure, clinical materials, and teaching personnel.
There are altogether 34 government medical colleges in Telangana. Out of these, 26 medical colleges have received an NMC Show Cause. The only exceptions are Gandhi Medical College, Osmania Medical College, Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Adilabad, Government Medical College Nizamabad, Government Medical College Maheshwaram, Government Medical College Yadadri, and Government Medical College Vikarabad.
After getting the show-cause notice from the National Medical Commission (NMC), the Chief Minister of Telangana A. Revanth Reddy directed the Health Department officials to prepare a comprehensive action plan to provide all the amenities to the GMCs across Telangana to ensure their functioning.
CM Reddy issued instructions to the Health Department officials to set up an official committee in this direction to study the situation in each of these medical colleges, identify their needs, work of immediate importance, requirement of funds, and help from the Government. The Committee has been instructed to submit a report in this regard.
As per the latest media report by the Times of India, DME A Narendra Kumar on Tuesday informed that an action plan was being devised to address the deficiencies in medical colleges across the State.
Meanwhile, the DME on Tuesday directed the Principals of medical colleges and allied hospitals to relieve doctors working on deputation and the doctors were asked to report to their place of posting.
