New Delhi: Based on the inputs given by the National Medical Commission (NMC) regarding the NEET UG 2024 syllabus, the National Testing Agency (NTA) is soon going to notify a rationalised syllabus next week for the entrance test.

As per NTA, the new lighter syllabus will be based on NMC inputs and after consulting with various Boards which rationalised their senior secondary syllabus during the COVID-19 pandemic, adds TOI.

NEET UG is an offline, pen-and-paper-based examination that is conducted annually by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The exam comprises of a single-question paper with 180 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) covering Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany and Zoology). The exam lasts 3 hours and 20 minutes and is held in various languages, making it accessible to many students. In respect of the Biology Syllabus, there are a total number of 10 Units that cover topics including- Diversity in Living World, Structural Organisation in Animals and Plants, Cell Structure and Function, Plant Physiology, Human Physiology, Reproduction, Genetics and Evolution, Biology and Human Welfare, Biotechnology and its Application, and Ecology and Environment.

As per the latest media report by the Times of India, NTA is now going to notify a rationalised syllabus for NEET UG 2024 and the online registration process for the common entrance examination for admission to undergraduate medical, dental and allied courses will commence in January. NTA informed that the new syllabus will be based on the NMC inputs and after consultations with various Boards which rationalised their senior secondary syllabus during Covid.

Commenting on the matter, NTA Director General Subodh Kumar Singh told TOI, "NTA will notify NEET-UG syllabus next week so that it helps students in preparation. It will be a reduced syllabus. The students will be getting over six months to plan their studies for the entrance test."

Several education Boards, including the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) as well as the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) reduced the syllabus for Classes IX to XII because of academic disruption during the pandemic. The current class XII batch was in Class IX in 2020 when the process to rationalise the syllabus was initiated. However, till no no changes have been made in the NEET-UG and JEE (Main) syllabus.
