NEET PG 2022: Here are 10 AIR Toppers

Dr Shagun Batra from New Delhi emerged as the All India topper in NEET PG 2022 entrance exam, followed by Dr Joseph with AIR 2, and Dr Harshita AIR 3.

Born and brought up in Delhi, the 23-year-old topper Dr Shagun Batra would be the first doctor in her family and she finds it remarkable.

"I come from a family of no doctors, so being the first doctor in my family was itself a remarkable thing for me," Batra said.

She has been a topper earlier during her school and college but she never thought of appearing for the NEET PG.

An alumna of Delhi Public School RK Puram, Dr Batra said she was the school topper in her Class 12 board exams as well. She was admitted to MAMC in 2016 and has since been the gold medallist from her MBBS batch throughout.

Now that she has qualified for the prestigious PG medical entrance test with flying colours, Dr Batra aims to pursue her postgraduation from the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh in MD (Medicine).

"I really wish to do my PG in the Medicine branch. I had qualified for INICET as well but couldn't get this stream due to the low seat matrix. I'm hoping to get admission to PGI," she told UNI.

The NEET PG 2022 exam ran into a little controversy after many candidates requested the Centre to postpone the examination date. However, the exam was conducted as per schedule on May 21. Medical Dialogues has been reporting about the matter extensively.

Speaking on the matter, Dr Batra said the postponement would have adversely impacted the junior batches by disrupting their academic calendar.

"I think final year MBBS students would have been at a disadvantage if the examination date had been postponed. The academic calendar had already been disrupted a lot because of Covid-19, more postponement would have just affected the junior batches adversely," she said.

3 toppers from MAMC

Three students from Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) have acored among the top ten rank holders including AIR 1.

Dr Shagun Batra from the batch of 2016 has secured the AIR 1 in the postgraduate medical entrance exam while Dr Armaan Seth and Dr Sushant have scored Rank 8 and 9 respectively.

The entrance examination, NEET PG is the gateway to PG medical courses in the country including Master of Surgery (MS), Doctor of Medicine (MD) as well as PG Diploma courses.

82,318 candidates out of a total of 2,06,301 registered candidates appeared for the NEET PG 2022 exam at 849 examination centres.

Each and every question in NEET-PG 2022 was reviewed by the faculty members from the concerned specialty after the conduct of NEET-PG 2022 to re-check for technical correctness of the questions as well as answer keys. As per inputs from the faculty members, two questions were found to be technically incorrect / have more than 1 correct option in the Question paper of NEET-PG 2022. Full marks have been awarded to all the candidates who appeared in the exam for these questions, irrespective of the fact whether these two questions have been attempted or not attempted by the candidates.

What Next?

The candidates who have qualified in the NEET PG entrance examination will be participating in various counselling rounds that will be conducted for All India Quota seats, state medical and dental colleges, Central and Deemed Universities, etc. To participate in the NEET PG counselling 2022, medical graduates must fulfil the eligibility and domicile requirements as per their preference of college and course.

The NEET PG 2022 cutoff list has also been released, cutoff score for General is 275, 245 for SC/ST/OBC and 260 for General-PH.

In accordance with the minimum qualifying/eligibility criteria for admission to MD/MS/PG Diploma course as mentioned in the information Bulletin for NEET-PG 2022, the cut-off scores for various categories are as follows:-

As per the counselling policy of MCC, a candidate can choose the benefit of only one kind of reservation. Accordingly, candidates choosing their Nationality as NRI/Foreign Nationals/OCI or PIO shall not be entitled to avail any benefits of SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwD, in the counselling conducted by MCC and also in the qualifying criteria of NEET-PG 2022.

Such NRI/Foreign Nationals/OCI or PIO candidates shall be treated as "General" for the purpose of qualifying criteria of NEET-PG 2022 and also for the purpose of counselling conducted by MCC, irrespective of the Category/PwD status chosen by them in the NEET-PG 2022 application form.

The merit position for All India 50% quota seats shall be declared separately. The final merit list/category wise merit list for State quota seats shall be generated by the States/UT as per their qualifying/eligibility criteria, applicable guidelines/Regulations & reservation policy.
