NEET PG counselling: When will round 3 commence? Doctors demand clarity

New Delhi: Pointing out the long delay in the commencement of the Round 3 of the National Eligibility Entrance Test Postgraduate, NEET PG counselling, the doctors and PG medical aspirants are demanding clarity from the authorities.
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) had published the results of the NEET PG Round 2 counselling on December 16, 2025.
However, the PG medical aspirants are still waiting for the commencement of Round 3 counselling. In a recent official notice issued by the MCC in this regard, addressed to State Directors of Medical Education (DMEs), Vice Chancellors, and Secretaries (Medical Education) of all States, the MCC mentioned that the counselling schedule for Round 3 will be uploaded after receiving approval of the revised percentile eligibility for participation in PG Counselling 2025 from the competent authority.
Highlighting the delay in commencing the Round 3 counselling, a doctor wrote in an X post, "Still no schedule 25 days after the 2nd round results. Nearing 6 months since the NEET PG exam. Please don’t become a doctor in this country unless your parents are super rich or own hospitals."
Seeking answers from the authorities, including MCC and the National Board of Examinations (NBE), regarding the Round 3 schedule, an intern doctor asked on X, "When will round 3 of NEET PG 2025 happen?"
The Chief Patron of the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA), Dr. Rohan Krishnan, also highlighted the issue. Demanding an immediate update regarding the official schedule, Dr. Krishnan wrote on X, "NEET-PG Round-3 has gone missing. 15+ days of silence after Round-2. No dates!!!!!! No notice — No accountability. This isn’t just delay — it is emotional torture for thousands of young doctors stuck in limbo, unable to plan careers, homes or families!!!!! A national exam cannot run on rumours!!!!!! We demand an immediate, official update with a firm timeline. !!!!!!!!"
Dr Krishnan had earlier raised the issue of delay in commencing the NEET PG 2025 counselling, pointing out how it affected both the PG medical aspirants, who are seeking admission, and also the overworked residents working without 33.33% workforce.
Speaking to Medical Dialogues on the delay, Dr. Krishnan said, "More than six months have passed since the NEET PG 2025 exam was held, and yet the counselling process is far from conclusion. This is affecting the PG medical aspirants, who cannot plan anything regarding their future and are waiting for the counselling results. This is a clear injustice."
Meanwhile, yesterday, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) issued an official notice allowing postgraduate medical candidates to resign from their Round 1 and Round 2 seats allotted through MCC, following multiple requests received from candidates. The decision has been taken in the larger interest of students to ensure optimal utilisation of seats in the upcoming counselling round.
As per the notice dated 12 January 2026, in the larger interest of candidates, the competent authority has decided to provide facility of resignation to such candidates from 05:00 P.M of 12.01.2026 to 05:00 P.M of 15.01.2026 with forfeiture of the security deposit. The seats so vacated will be added to the seat matrix of Round 3 so that they are available to participating candidates for choice filling in Round 3
