NMC approves 100 MBBS seats at Korba Medical College
Korba: After a long wait, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has given its permission for 100 MBBS seats in the Korba Medical Commission for the academic session 2022-2023.
The Apex medical commission issued the letter of intent on Friday after evaluating and supervising the infrastructure and other facilities provided by the State government to the medical college in Korba.
Even though the permission for setting up medical colleges in Kanker, Mahasamund and Korba districts was granted back in 2020, Korba medical college failed to pass the NMC test.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that even though last year the Kanker Medical College had been approved by NMC, the apex medical body didn't give its nod for the Korba and Mahasamund medical colleges.
Last year in August the Medical Assessment and Rating Board of NMC had inspected those three medical colleges in Chhattisgarh along with the UG Expert Medical Group online representation.

However, after finding some shortcomings, the committee had given 21 days of time for improvement. In the case of Korba Medical College, the Committee had rejected the application and opined that there was no improvements in the equipment procurements. Further, the Commmittee had pointed out that the Principal of the college, being away from the campus, couldn't show the infrastructure.
As per the latest media report by Bhaskar Hindi, recently NMC has granted 100 MBBS seats in the Korba Medical College for the academic session 2022-2023 and already the Commission has issued the Letter of Intent to the Dean of the medical college.
In this regard, a official statement was quoted stating by Daily Pioneer, "The Korba Medical College was recognized for medical education based on the infrastructure and facilities provided in the medical college after an inspection by the NMC."
Congratulating the people of the State for earning the NMC nod for all the three new medical colleges of the State, Medical Education Minister Shri T.S. Singhdeo mentioned that with the recently added 300 MBBS seats in the government medical colleges now it would be possible for more people of Chhattisgarh to purse their dream of becoming doctors. Apart from this, he pointed out that now specialist medical facilities would be available for people in the hospitals affiliated to these medical colleges.
