Rohtak: In a major milestone for the Pt Bhagwat Dayal Sharma Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS), Rohtak, the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has given its nod to the institute for introducing the Doctorate of Medicine (cardiology) course.
For now, PGIMS Rohtak would run the course with an intake capacity for two seats, reports The Tribune.
PGIMS, Rohtak is the apex teaching medical institute of Haryana affiliated to Pt. B.D Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak. The institute is running undergraduate and postgraduate courses in various disciplines and Super-specialty courses like DM/M.Ch.
Medical Dialogues had reported back in 2020 that the Haryana Government had announced the commencement of the DM Cardiology course at PGIMS Rohtak along with the establishment of 3 new medical colleges.
After the confirmation came through an official statement released by the State Government an official spokesman had informed that DM Cardiology course at Pt. B.D Sharma Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS), Rohtak would run under the Medical Council of India (MCI).
He had further informed that the institute already had all requisite infrastructure, equipment, and full-time faculty as per the requirement of the apex Medical Council of India, for starting a separate course in DM Cardiology.
As per the latest media report by The Tribune, the MARB has finally given permission to the institute for running the DM Cardiology course in two seats.
With this, PGIMS Rohtak has become the first medical institute across the state for running the course.
While commenting on the matter, Dr. Kuldeep Singh Lallar, Head of the Department of Cardiology in PGIMS informed the daily that commencing the course would not only increase the number of cardiac specialists in the state but it would also provide big relief to the heart patients approaching the institute for treatment.
