NMC nod to MD Paediatrics course at RML Lucknow
New Delhi: Giving the Postgraduate medical aspirants in the State a reason to rejoice, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has given its nod to Lucknow based Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS) for commencing MD postgraduate course in Paediatrics.
The admission in the course shall commence from the current academic session. Following the NMC nod for MD Paediatrics at the institute, the total number of PG medical seats at the Institute have crossed 80, adds TOI.
RMLIMS, the Lucknow-based Super Speciality hospital is an autonomous teaching superspeciality institute funded by the Government of Uttar Pradesh. The Institute is affiliated to King George's Medical University (KGMU).

Although it was established back in 2006, it received approval from erstwhile Medical Council of India (MC), now NMC for running PG medical courses back in 2012.
Apart from MD Paediatrics, RMLIMS runs MD courses in different specialties including Anaesthesia, Pathology, Radiodiagnosis, Radiotherapy and Microbiology. It also offers DM/MCh courses in Cardiology, Neurology, CTVS, Neurosurgery, Surgical Oncology, Urology, Surgical Gastroenterology, DNB courses in Nephrology General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Obs-Gyn, and PDCC (oncopathology) course in Pathology Department.
Besides, there are also 200 seats for MBBS course in the institute and it also offers different short term training courses in Lab Medical, Surgery & Allied Departments, Nursing & Paramedical etc.
Officials have informed the Times of India that 51 (64%) of the total PG medical seats in the college have been added in the last two years after Prof Soniya Nityanand was appointed the Director.
Referring to the NMC nod for MD Paediatrics, Prof Nityanand told the daily, "It will improve the quality of patient care service along with the addition of medical education standards."
