Puducherry: Arguing that the lack of medical seats under the Government quota would increase the financial burden on the parents of medical aspirants, Lt. Governor K. Kailashnathan and Chief Minister N. Rangasamy have been urged to ensure that 65% of the seats in private medical colleges come under the government quota.

In this regard, the Puducherry State Students and Parents Welfare Association recently submitted a representation to the Lt. Governor and Chief Minister. In the representation, the association said that while most of the States provided 65% of the seats in private medical colleges under the Government Quota, Puducherry offered only 30% of them under the same quota.

As per the latest media report by The Hindu, in this regard, the President of the association Vai Bala said that the lack of medical seats under the government quota would increase the financial burden of the parents of medical aspirants.

Further, the association has urged the Government to ensure the Centralised Admission Committee furnishes information about fee structure and stipend before the counselling for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that as per the fee structure for the candidates seeking MBBS, MD, MS, MDS, BDS and nursing admissions, as released by the Centralised Admission Committee (CENTAC) last year, the MBBS fees in the Government quota seats is around Rs 4 lakhs, whereas the fees at the Management quota seats range from Rs 16.80 lakhs to Rs 21 lakhs.

Similarly, for the BDS courses, while the fees for Government quota seats is Rs 3 lakh, it is more than double i.e. Rs 6.5 lakh for the Management quota seats.

Meanwhile, the fee for PG clinical courses is Rs 7,95,000, and for non-clinical courses, it is Rs 6,55,000. However, the fees for clinical and non-clinical management quota seats are Rs 23,90,000 and Rs 13,05,000, respectively.
