Rajasthan medical student missing for 19 days found dead in Russia

Alwar: In a tragic incident, the body of a 22 year old third year medical student from Rajasthan's Alwar district, who had been missing for the past 19 days in Russia, was found dead in a dam near the White River in Ufa city. The student was studying at Bashkir State Medical University.

As per NDTV news report, the student went missing on October 19 in Ufa. The next day, his clothes and mobile phone were found on the riverbank, suggesting he may have been swept away by the river’s strong current. However, the Russian police could not locate his body until recently. His friends later identified the recovered body.

His death has raised suspicions as it remains unclear whether it was a case of suicide, murder, or an accident since his body was found in a mysterious circumstances.

NDTV reported that the incident took place after the student, a resident of Kaphanwada village in Lakshmangarh left his hostel at around 11am to buy milk, but never returned.

The family was extremely distraught upon hearing the news of the 22-year-old boy's disappearance; the entire family had been making efforts and prayers for his safe return.

After hearing the news of his disappearance, his family were heartbroken and shattered. Now, the family after learning the death of their son pray for the safe return of his mortal remains. The body will be brought back to India following postmortem and necessary embassy clearance.

Former Union Minister Jitendra Singh Alwar expressed his grief on X (formerly Twitter), writing, "***, from Kaphanwada village, had been sent to Russia by his family with great hopes and by pooling their hard-earned money to pursue medical studies. About 19 days ago, his clothes, mobile phone, and shoes were found by the riverbank there. Today’s news of *** body being found in the river is utterly shocking. This is an extremely sorrowful moment for the Alwar family; in suspicious circumstances, we have lost a promising young boy.."

He further added, "I request the Government of India and Foreign Minister to immediately bring *** body back to India. An untoward incident has occurred with the boy in suspicious circumstances; it must be investigated with complete seriousness. The family should not have to run around your offices anymore."

Officials told TOI that the autopsy will be conducted by a medical board in Russia. After the procedure, which is expected to take around two days, his body will be brought back to India for the last rites.

Meanwhile, the All India Medical Students’ Association (AIMSA) Foreign Medical Students Wing has written to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, requesting his intervention to coordinate with the Indian Embassy in Moscow and Russian authorities to ensure the early repatriation of his mortal remains to his family.
