SCTIMST holds Annual convocation of 38th batch, 168 medicos receive degrees
Thiruvananthapuram: The annual convocation of the 38th batch at Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTISMT) was held at Achutha Menon Centre for Health Science Studies Auditorium (Sree Chitra Campus) on Saturday, 21st of May 2022.
Prof. MS Valiathan, Founder Director and National Professor (Govt. of India), who was the chief guest said that we have done phenomenally well in the health sector and development of medical technologies and instruments. He has pointed out that SCTIMST should contribute more to decrease the import of medical instrument in India.

He recollected that during the development of Chitra valve or during the development of blood bag, we had no collaboration with the foreign countries or we have not taken any help from the foreign fellows. All the resources are available here and we need to focus more for the indigenous development of medical equipment. He has concluded the speech by directing SCTIMST towards the new goals.
The guest of honour at the function, Dr. V. Kamakodi, Director, IIT Madras, said that the graduation ceremony is a memorable event and the students are fortunate to get the graduation from Sree Chitra. He stressed the need for amalgamation of medical field and technology. The data sciences and technology in medical field needs to be improved. SCTIMST is the best place for the same.
He concluded that more academic programs needs to be started in medical technology fields, where clinician scientists needs to be brought up.
Dr. V. Kamakodi also inaugurated SCTIMST Alumni website.
The prestigious Prof MS Valiathan Award for Outstanding Research investigator-2022 is awarded to Dr. S HARIKRISHNAN, Professor, Department of Cardiology for his high quality research and publications in Cardiology.
The Best Biomedical Technology Innovation Award for 2022 goes to Er Sarath S Nair , Engineer E, Division of Extra Corporeal Devices, BMT Wing.
Special appreciation and certificate of merit was awarded to Dr Anoop kumar T, Scientist G, Division of Molecular Medicine, BMT Wing for his significant contribution of for Biomedical Technology innovation.
The Best Public Health Research Project Award -2022 was awarded to Dr Jeemon_P, Associate Professor, Achutha Menon Center for Health Science Studies for his contribution in public Health. He is also a recipient of Prestigious Shanthi Swaroop Bhatnagar Award for 2021.
The Best Paper Publication award for 2022 is awarded to Dr. Manjula P.M. for the paper titled "Gelatin-modified Cholecyst-Derived Scaffold Promotes Angiogenesis and Faster Healing of Diabetic Wounds".
President of the Institute Dr.Vijay Kumar Saraswat, presided over the function and conferred the degrees. Prof. Sanjay Behari, Director, SCTIMST, welcomed the gathering and presented the report of the academic and R&D activities of the Institute. Prof. C. Kesavadas proposed the vote of thanks. Former Directors of SCTIMST, Princess of the Travancore royal family- Aswathy Tirunal Gouri Lakshmi Bayi and Pooyam Tirunal Gouri Parvathy Bayi were also attended the convocation.
168 senior residents, PhD scholars and students who graduated during the year 2021 after completing DM, MCh, Post doctoral fellowship, Post doctoral certificate courses in Cardiac and Neurological specialties, PhD, Master of Public Health, MPhil and MS programs have received their degrees.
An Institute of National Importance under the administrative control of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, SCTIMST draws students from all over India. SCT has also affiliated programs of Christian Medical College, Vellore; National Institute of Epidemiology, Chennai. The annual convocation is a momentous occasion not only for the students but the whole academic fraternity.
SCTIMST, which enjoys the powers of a university, has created a niche for itself by offering the highest quality training in advanced medical superspecialties of cardiac and neurosciences and the research in medical, biomedical and public health sciences.
