State nod for 25 more MBBS seats each in GMC Patiala, Faridkot
Chandigarh: Offering more medical students in Punjab the chance to pursue their dream career, the State Government has given its nod for creating 25 more MBBS seats each in the Government Medical Colleges of Patiala and Faridkot.
The confirmation regarding this came from the State Minister for Medical Education and Research Chetan Singh Jauremajra, who announced this decision on Monday.
Referring to the motto of their government in improving the health and education sectors, the Minister claimed that these two sectors are their two main areas of concern and they are being improved by the administration.
Therefore, referring to the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann led Government's decision of adding more MBBS seats in the GMCs, Minister Jauremajra further informed about the State's plans for establishing a medical college in each district, adds IANS.

Apart from this, the authorities have been given directions for commencing classes at the medical colleges in Sangrur, Hoshiarpur, and Kapurthala from the next academic year.
As per the latest media report by the Times of India, the Minister further directed the authorities for improving the functioning of the hospitals of the medical colleges and to ensure quality healthcare facilities for public.
The Minister continued by saying that free medications should be given to patients as soon as possible in the hospitals run by the medical colleges.
As per the data provided by MoS Health Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar before the Parliament, Punjab has a total number of 11 medical colleges with an intake capacity of 1550 MBBS seats. Among these 750 MBBS seats are in 5 Government medical colleges, while there are 800 MBBS seats in 6 medical colleges run by the private management.
Recently, during the budget speech, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Cheema announced the decision of setting up 16 new medical colleges in the State and for this Rs 1,033 crore have already been allotted.
