Madurai: In an unfortunate incident, a second-year MBBS student of Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in a lodge near Thideer Nagar in Madurai.
According to the police, the 20-year-old student was struggling with stress regarding his studies and left the house on July 8. His family after being unable to find him filed a missing complaint at the police station.

The incident came to light when a room boy knocked on the door of the student's room but he did not answer. After receiving no response from him, the boy called the police who broke open the door and found the student hanging from the ceiling.
Following this, the police informed his parents in Puducherry and registered a case under relevant sections of IPC. An investigation is underway in this regard.
As per the Hindu news report, the initial probe by the police revealed that the student was scolded by his parents for his poor performance in academics following which he went missing.
Medical Dialogues team had previously reported a second-year MBBS student of Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College of Datta Meghe Institute of Higher Education & Research (DMIHER), Sawangi Meghe allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the fourth floor of the college building.
The student who was a gold medalist in her first-year medical course took the extreme step due to alleged academic and attendance pressure after the dean of the medical college allegedly denied her medical leave and detained her from appearing for the PCT2 exam due to lack of attendance. After being unable to take the pressure, she reportedly took her life and jumped from the building leaving a snap that said 'I Quit'.
