Telangana HC provides relief to reallocated medicos, fees not required until Centre takes final call on cancelled seats
Hyderabad: Providing relief to the medical students in Telangana who had to be reallocated after the National Medical Commission (NMC) cancelled their admissions, the High Court has directed the authorities of Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) and private medical colleges not to insist on payment of fees from those students.
Therefore, the students who have been accommodated in the new colleges as a part of reallocation, need not pay the fee until the Central Government takes its final decision the colleges where seats had been cancelled by NMC, adds Edex Live.
The crisis regarding the medical seats began after the National Medical Commission (NMC) cancelled MBBS and PG medical admission in three private medical colleges in Telangana following a surprise inspection. It resulted in a huge decrease in the total number of seats. In case of MNR Medical College and Hospital, both MBBS and PG admissions had been cancelled. NMC further cancelled PG medical seats in Mahavir Institute of Medical Sciences. Apart from this, TRR Institute of Medical Sciences, Patancheru lost its letter of permission for the first renewal and second batch of admission.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the NMC decision resulted in several litigations. During the hearing of the case, the High Court bench had directed NMC to relocate those medicos to other medical colleges in Telangana within four weeks with the help of the State Government and the Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS). In fact, the Apex medical body had also sought an action taken report from the State.

Even though the colleges had requested for a stay order on the reallocation process, the High Court had denied staying the reallocation process. HC denied passing a stay order as the NMC counsel had referred to the major deficiencies in the facilities of TRR, which were noted during a suprise inspection conducted by NMC. It was pointed out by NMC counsel that the inspection had revealed that there was a faculty deficiency of 74 per cent. Besides, there was a deficiency in the residents and bed occupancy, claimed the NMC lawyer and argued that this could not be condoned for the quality of medical education would get hampered.
Meanwhile, MNR medical college approached the Central Government and therefore, it got the nod for operating the college with the current stated, adds Edex Live while referring to a recent report by the New Indian Express.
While MNR has been given relief by the Union Government, Centre is yet to take a call regarding the appeals made by TRR and MIMS. At such an outset, the HC bench has directed Centre for clearing the pending appeals within two weeks.
As per the latest media report by the Times of India, in this context, the Telangana HC bench comprising of Justice Abhinand Kumar Shavili and Justice Pulla Karthik on Friday directed KNRUHS authorities and other private medical colleges not to insist on payment of fees from students who had been accommodated in the new colleges as part of reallocation.
Edex Live adds that as per the HC direction, the students who got reallocated do not require to pay the fee until the Union Government announces the verdict on the appeals made by TRR and Mahavir Medical colleges.
