PG Medical Course Fee:

The committee has fixed PG Medical Degree (clinical) fees as Rs 3,50,000 in the Govt Quota seats, Rs 16 lakh in the management quota seats and Rs 29 lakh in the NRI quota seats.

As per the notification, the fee for the PG Medical Degree (non-clinical) is Rs 3 lakh for the Govt Quota seats, Rs 5 lakh for management quota and Rs 19 lakh for NRI quota seats.

Further, the committee has fixed the fee for PG Diploma Medical Courses as Rs 3 lakh for Govt Quota, Rs 5 lakh for management quota and Rs 19 lakh for NRI quota seats.

The proceedings of the committee on the fixation of fees in respect of the self-financing professional colleges were released on Monday. This panel is chaired by Justice Pongiappan, and it sets the fees for the undergraduate and postgraduate medical and dental courses. According to the notification, the modified fee structure will be effective for the students admitted for admission in 2025, 2026, and 2027.

In the notification, the committee has mentioned the following:

√The maximum fee structure prescribed will take effect for the students admitted for the academic years 2025 -2026, 2026 -2027 and 2027-2028.

√In addition to the above fees, the institution is permitted to collect an amount of Rs.60,000/- per student as development fee.

√The management is directed to cover all the Students under Students Group Insurance Scheme.

√The above fee does not include Hostel, Transport, and Mess charges which is optional for the students. The institutions are directed to submit the details of the above fee to the Selection Committee well in advance before commencement of counselling.

√The Committee directs that the institution shall not collect or levy any other recurring or non-recurring fee including capitation fee.

√Any deviation from this order, the Committee will send a recommendation to the authority concerned to withdrawal of approval by NMC and disaffiliation by the concerned University as well as imposition of fine.

There are altogether 11,700 MBBS seats, and among these, 5,050 MBBS seats are in the Government medical colleges. Tamil Nadu has 22 self-financing private medical colleges and four private universities.

The non-minority institutes in self-financing medical colleges and state private universities share 65% of seats for admission under the government quota, and minority institutes share 50% of the seats. The State selection committee conducts the admission to all seats in self-financing colleges and state private universities.

TOI has reported that the biggest change has been introduced by eliminating the 'NRI lapse' category. This category was created to fill in non-MRI candidates alongside the management quota in self-financing medical/dental colleges and the state private universities.

Now, the selection committee will transfer the vacant NRI quota seats after three rounds of counseling to the common pool in the management category, allowing Indian students to take these seats at a cost that is at least 30% lower.

Until last year, the self-financing medical colleges could collect Rs 24.5 lakh as NRI quota fees. The colleges used to set aside 15% of the seats for the NRI category, and if these seats remained vacant, they were converted into the NRI lapse seats, for which Rs 21.50 lakh was collected as an annual tuition fee.
