26-year-old doctor falls to death from fifth floor of GSVM Medical College
Kanpur: In a shocking incident, a 26-year-old doctor died under suspicious circumstances after falling into an air vent on the fifth floor of Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial (GSVM) Medical College, Kanpur in the early hours of Thursday.
According to the police, the doctor sat on a part of the roof where there was a hidden duct covered by a thin layer of cement. Unfortunately, the cement broke under her weight.
Although the police have initiated a probe to determine the cause of her death, her family members alleged that she was murdered following which two doctors who accompanied her to the fifth floor, were taken into custody for questioning but later released.

As per media reports, the doctor was a former medical student at the college who passed out in March 2023. After completing her MBBS, she did her internship at the medical college which was completed in 2024 and she then joined Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial Medical College, Meerut as a medical officer. Further, she was intending to pursue post-graduation.
In the preliminary investigation done by the police on the spot, it has come to light that the deceased was partying with her two friends who were also doctors and had passed from GSVM medical college along with her.
"Tiwari, a resident of Bareilly, who had completed her MBBS course recently had gone to the fifth floor along with her two fellow students from where she suddenly fell into a duct," ACP Shikhar told PTI.
As per HT news report, the incident took place on June 13 at around 1 am when the three doctors met and had a party in their room in Swaroop Nagar. From there, they went to the fifth floor of the medical college examination building, where the incident occurred. After the doctor fell, they informed the police and one of them descended into the duct to retrieve her.
After the police reached the spot, she was rushed to LLR Hospital, where she died during treatment. Following this, the police took the body of the deceased into custody and sent it for post-mortem.
Alleging foul play, her family members indicated that she was murdered by claiming that she was pushed from the roof by her two friends. As a result, they demanded the police to check the CCTV footage installed on the route leading to the roof to get evidence, TOI reports.
Launching an investigation into the matter, ACP said, that it is too early to conclude whether it was an accident, suicide or murder. The forensic team has sealed the roof of the building.
The officiating principal of the medical college, Dr Richa Giri, told media persons on Thursday that the doctor had completed her studies at the medical college in March and had allegedly gone to the fifth floor of the college building for some work.
