Guwahati Doctor Missing in Lohit River Area
Guwahati: In a shocking incident, a 39-year-old doctor from Guwahati has gone missing from the Parshuram Kund area in Arunachal Pradesh's Lohit district since the morning of May 31, prompting a large-scale search and rescue operation amid worsening weather conditions.
The missing doctor, identified as Debenjit Kumar Sharma, was last seen leaving his resort around 8:00 AM on Friday. Since then, there has been no communication from him. His personal belongings — including his motorcycle, camera, leg guards, and identification documents — were later discovered undisturbed inside his resort room.
Authorities suspect that Dr. Sharma may have been swept away by the fast-rising waters of the Lohit River, which has been swelling due to persistent heavy rainfall in the region.

According to the Hub News, “We suspect he may have gone near the river and was swept away by the rising floodwaters,” Lohit Superintendent of Police Thutan Jamba told reporters. “The resort owner informed Wakro Police Station on the evening of May 31, and we immediately launched a search and rescue operation, but he has not yet been traced.”
The ongoing search efforts have been hampered by challenging terrain and inclement weather, as rainfall continues to lash the region.
Parshuram Kund, located on the banks of the Lohit River, is a popular pilgrimage site that attracts thousands of devotees annually, especially during the monsoon season, when the river’s behaviour becomes highly unpredictable.
Police have issued advisories urging visitors and locals in the area to exercise extreme caution near the riverbanks due to the swift currents and rising water levels.

Medical dialogues had previously reported that after an extensive 32-hour search operation, the joint rescue teams recovered the body of the Telangana-based woman doctor on Thursday evening, who was swept away by the strong currents of the Tungabhadra River while swimming. The body was found a few meters downstream, trapped between rocks.
